Former Weather Report keyboard tech Jim Swanson took these photos of the Zawinul Syndicate at the Hollywood Bowl, August 25, 2004.

Syndicate guitarist Amit Chatterjee had to tend to a family emergency, so Zawinul asked Scott Henderson if he could sit in. Henderson cancelled his own fiftieth birthday party gig at La Va Lee's in order to make the concert with Joe, arriving earlier than the rest of the band so that he could get the charts down before soundcheck. "Good friends mean a lot to Joe," says Swanson.

Jim Swanson and Brian Risner, two men who had a lot to do with Zawinul's keyboard setup during the Weather Report years. "Joe commented that it was nice to see three generations of road brothers," says Swanson. "Brian passed the torch to me, and I passed it along to Ivan [Zawinul, Joe's son and his current technician and sound engineer]."
